Now -- turn any web site in the world into a slide show -- instantly!
Just download this slideshow .jar file.
Double-click to open it. If that doesn't start the program, type
the command
java -jar
SlideShow.jar
Click a button to choose a web site, or a local directory. The
slide show
will start there, then branch to other sites it finds linked.
Choose a site from a list of defaults, browse from a default site to
one you like better, or type in the URL of a site you know. Or you can
type in a simple search topic to kick things off. Then
sit back and enjoy!
Notes:
- You need an up-to-date Java Run-time Environment (JRE) installed on your
machine. Most computers will have one already. Recommended: a late-model JRE from Sun.
- The program may eventually hang or get an OutOfMemory error (especially
when it tries to load a series of huge images).
- The program has been tested mostly on Windows XP with Java 1.5
and above. Previous version have also been run under X-Windows from a Linux
machine. On Linux, the default web site chooser list isn't
displayed automatically -- click the little arrow at the right of the
text box to display it.
- A bunch of annoying and irrelevant messages may be displayed in
the command window as you run. Ignore them. Or avoid the
window by starting the program with javaw -jar SlideShow.jar
- Bug reports may be sent to "slideshow" at martin.dickey.name
(reply not guaranteed). Please describe the bug and mention the
OS, Java version, and SlideShow version you are running. You can find out
the version number by pressing the "About" button. At
present, bug reports are likely to be replied to only if the problem
can be duplicated on Windows XP running Java 1.5 or higher.
- The program incorporates classes from the Apache Xerces
distribution (for HTML parsing) and from Richard Osbaldeston
(for .bmp file
processing).
